Diocesan Boys’ School

The history of D.B.S. dates back to 15th March 1860, when the Honorary Lady Robinson, a patroness, sat together with eight others and decided to establish a girls' school known as ‘Diocesan Native Female Training School’.  However it was not until 14th July, 1863, that a formal opening ceremony of the school was held.  Boys were first accepted into the school in the late 1860s and in July 1869 its name changed to 'Diocesan Home and Orphanage' (DHO).  In 1878 it was decided that no more girls were to be admitted.  The girls were put into a separate school, the present Diocesan Girls' School.  In 1891, the school changed its name to 'Diocesan School and Orphanage' (DSO) and then twice again in the early 20th century, first to ‘Diocesan Boys’ School and Orphanage’ (DBSO) and then to its current name, ‘Diocesan Boys’ School’ (DBS).
Today, DBS is one of the leading schools in Hong Kong, with a mission to provide a liberal education based on Christian principles.  It is not only very strong academically, but is also prolific in music and sports.  DBS sports life is certainly a pillar to the school’s aim of all-round excellence.  The school runs a wide variety of well-organised sports teams which rank among the best in Hong Kong.  Supported by excellent facilities and coaching, the school has won countless trophies and championships, including the prestigious Bauhinia Bowl for the past four years running - an award which is given to the school with the best performance in Inter-School sports.  The results achieved by the school’s sportsmen serve to forge a great sense of belonging, camaraderie and spirit.
